The Invisible College is the community of scientists who turn away from the visible metrics of success in status quo institutions (like publications, job titles, and awards), to focus on the invisible roots of science: curiosity, dialogue, and the subjective hunch.
The Invisible College tradition started in the 1600s, at a time when truth was determined by authority, namely Aristotelian science and the Church. It was one of the early movers into a new scientific paradigm based on empiricism. The Invisible College was predecessor to the Royal Society, which invented Peer Review, which became the new institutional game. [Read more]
